Children’s
writer, translator, illustrator and printmaker Yoko Yoshizawa
was born in Tokyo in 1955.
As
an exchange student at the University of the Pacific
in the U.S. she discovered children's titles which inspired
her to study picture book writing and illustrating. After
graduating from Aoyama Gakuin University in Tokyo with
a BFA (majoring in English-American literature), Yoko began
creating picture books while working as an interpreter/translator,
and now has numerous volumes published.
From
1987 she began exploring intaglio, monotype and collagraph
print mediums. Yoko has spent considerable time in
Thailand working on a Thai Folktale illustrated by a Thai
artist, and also a month in Tanzania working on a similar
project.
